TerraClean Minor Fuel System Cleaning
TerraClean is a patented fuel system cleaning technology that was created to solve the problem of reduced engine performance due to an accumulation of carbon deposits and other impurities in your engine’s fuel system. It uses an advanced formulation additive to open up clogged injectors, removing gum and varnish, all these while you drive your car.
This method also disperses water and improves the atomization of your fuel as it goes through the injectors. Other available options apart from the standard TerracClean Services include:
- The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) TerraClean
- The DPF (diesel particulate filter) Terra Clean
Is Cleaning Fuel System Necessary?
The answer is yes. Your car runs on the principle of burning gasoline as fuel to create an explosion inside the engine. That exploding force is then harnessed and is converted into energy which pushes the pistons and drives your car forward.
Over time, the combustion process results in the accumulation of carbon deposits that can build up in many parts of the engine. Some of which are hard to reach. One, in particular, is the fuel injector component. These needle-like apertures spray gasoline in a fine mist to ignite combustion inside the piston chamber causing the engine to come to life.
When gunk starts to build on the nozzles of the injectors, it reduces the mist into a dribble, choking the needles which in turn causes engine problems. These problems are described as poor idling, rough engine throttle response, increased consumption in fuel, bucking, engine can’t go full RPM, and more. With these symptoms, the obvious problem would be a dirty or damaged fuel system. This is why periodic cleaning is necessary.
There are roughly two types of fuel system cleaning as follows:
Minor Fuel System Cleaning
This involves cleaning parts of the injector system assembly which can be done by your trusted mechanic . They may disassemble it or not, it depends on the fuel injection system and the shop.
Another way would be cleaning the gas pump, fuel lines, and injectors, by adding an additive into the gas tank and running the engine.
This is a second stage cleaning where a cleaner is directly deposited into a warm engine to remove carbon deposits from the combustion chambers and all other hard-to-reach areas.
It pretty much depends on your vehicle’s engine design. Most experts would recommend an annual (yearly) fuel system cleaning, or you may check your manufacturer’s manual. Your fuel filter must be replaced every 30,000 miles, or as recommended by your car maker.
Fuel Injector Cleaner VS Fuel System Cleaner
A fuel injector cleaner is by design mild in formulation, in that it is made up of kerosene and petroleum distillates. Its main purpose is to clean the injectors. On the other hand, a fuel system cleaner can contain other strong detergents and some other aggressive chemicals. It can reach and clean intake valves and even remove combustion chamber carbon deposits.
The TerraClean patented technology uses advanced chemical formulation to remove stubborn carbon deposits from your engine and its fuel system. This formulation is declared safe for both the user and his car. It is environmentally friendly and doesn’t have dirty emissions as a by-product during the cleaning process.
Starting at £110 or 152 US, the manufacturer claims time and money are saved in the long run. (over a year of continued use) It more than compensates for the actual cleaning cost.
The benefits are as follows:
- Improve fuel economy
- Better engine response
- Lower emissions
- Savings on repairs by prolonging the life of fuel system parts
- Helps your annual MOT performance.
- And a noticeable improvement in overall vehicle performance.
