Replace Spark Plug Wires Regularly

Replace Spark Plug Wires Regularly

Most people will make the decision to change their spark plug wires for two reasons. The first is when their owner’s manual recommends it and the other when the engine begins to misfire.

Why do spark plug wires fail and why do they need to be replaced?

Your spark plug wires are exposed to high under hood temperatures that can really take its toll on the spark plug wire’s insulation. When you combine this with newer vehicles having high-output ignitions it’s easy to see why the wires could be overstressed. Other factors that can weaken the insulation on the wires are water, oil and gasoline vapors. When your spark plug wires are damaged it can cause increased resistance resulting in a weak spark. What you notice is your engine misfiring or sputtering. While this can be embarrassing and annoying, it can also be quite dangerous. Imagine if you were trying to merge with traffic and your engine sputters and doesn’t allow you to pick up enough speed. No one wants that experience. Another reason to change your spark plug wires is that it can dramatically improve your engine’s operation. Performance is automatically better when your spark plugs are getting the spark they need.

“I went to Car Craft a few years ago BECAUSE I was looking for a car shop that had integrity and offered only services that were needed as cost has always been a factor since I was female and taken advantage of previously by unscrupulous service shops.”

I own a Ford 2004 F350 Diesel and have had terrible experiences with other shops.  After my first experience with Tony and Car Craft, I know I’ve found the right shop.  I get better mileage now which relates to less wear on my vehicle thanks to Car Craft.

I got a recommendation from the local Napa parts dealer for Car Craft to help me with my check engine light coming on while I was visiting my parents in Kelowna from Puyallup, Washington. I was leaving to go home the next morning over the Coquihalla Pass Highway. It was after 3 pm when I pulled in. They took great care of me and had the problem diagnosed and the light turned off and I was on my way just after 4 pm. Fantastic people with a great attitude to help you.Hats off to these folks it’s not about the money to them it’s all about taking care of you.

Fast, friendly service. I did not feel bamboozled by these guys – they explained what I needed to have done and were great about telling me the work that was not necessary. I really appreciated that. I think women can rest assured that they are not getting ripped off when the bring their cars in on their own. That is a real concern for a lot of us.

I found the staff to be friendly, professional and extremely competent. I would have no hesitation to recommend them to others. I will be using their services again in the future.

Cabin Air Filter

Cabin Air Filter

Air quality is important. Your cabin air filter or dust filter cleans all the air that enters your vehicle’s interior via heating, vents and the air conditioning system.

When it’s clean it will trap dust, pollen and various airborne materials. This is very important as are often driving with the windows closed for heating or air conditioning reason. If you have allergies or respiratory conditions, then it is vitally important that the interior air be as contaminant free as possible.

How often should you change your cabin air filter?

The recommendations differ from one manufacturer to another. They can range from between 20,000 km to 24,000 km. You’ll also want to take into consideration how much and where you drive.

Something to look out for when it comes to your cabin air filter’s condition is a persistent bad or foul odor. Also listen to hear if the fan sounds like it is working harder than usual while producing poorer results.

Your cabin air filter should be taken out and inspected once per year.

First and foremost we make absolutely sure your vehicle is safe and sound for you and your loved ones to travel in. Whether it is across town for work or play or across the country for a holiday, Car Craft Automotive makes sure you get where you want to go.

It’s our business, and our promise to you.

Let us look after your vehicle, and you.

Air Filter Change

Air Filter Change

Other than electric cars, most modern automobile engines run by internal combustion and requires air to operate. That’s because without air, specifically, oxygen, fuels cannot burn to provide the explosive force that power the engine properly.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where it was hard to breathe? It could because of a cold, allergies, smog or excess smoke in the air. How did it affect you? It probably slowed you down and took more effort to perform basic activities. A dirty air filter creates the same situation for your engine.

If the air going into the engine is not clean it runs the risk of dust, dirt and debris quickly fouling up the engine, causing poor performance and potentially shortening the life of the car.

Foreign particles in the air going into the engine act as abrasives, wearing away at engine bearings, piston rings and cylinders. In addition, modern engines rely on a precise ratio of air to fuel. When the engine is starved of air, the fuel mix is said to run too “rich,” which in effect puts added strain on the engine.

Spark Plug Replacement

Spark Plug Replacement

What are Spark Plug Wires?

They are also referred to as Ignition Wires because they are part of your ignition system. They deliver the electricity to the spark plug so that it can generate the spark to ignite the air/fuel mixture. They also play a vital role in the smooth operation of your engine. When a spark plug wire fails it can create so much resistance that the electricity never reaches the plug. Another problem is the insulation in the wire breaks causing the spark to arc outside the engine not inside where it’s needed.

When should you change your Spark Plug Wires?

There are typically only two reasons someone changes their spark plug wires. First is when the engine is running rough and misfiring. Secondly, when it is recommended by the manufacturer. A visual inspection by your Car Craft professional can help you make your decision. They will show you what to look for.

Why do your spark plug wires fail?

Your spark plug wires carry high voltages on a consistent basis. That and they are exposed to high engine temperatures in a confined compartment. This can cause a baking effect on the insulated wire covering and the protective rubber boot.

Other conditions that can weaken the insulation on the wires are water, oil and gasoline vapors over long periods of time.

You want your spark plug wires to stay operating at the best because you don’t want your engine misfiring just when you need the power. Imagine pulling out to pass or to try to merge with highway traffic only to have your engine struggling to perform.

Ask your Car Craft professional about the condition of your spark plug wires. Piece of mind is important.
